Financial Literacy Symposium

Financial Literacy Symposium
[May 6, 2011, 8:30AM-1:30PM]

UWB Beta Alpha Psi and Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA) are working together to host a Financial Literacy Symposium on Friday May 6, 2011 from 8:30AM to 1:30PM in the North Creek Events Center. This one-day event is aimed at bringing financial education to 120 high school students. The event features three keynote speakers and four interactive games to help the students develop skills in budgeting, credit card use, comparison shopping, and basically handling their personal finances. Also, the lessons will cover the value of higher education and promote the business program at the University of Washington Bothell.

We need volunteers to make this event a success! Volunteers with time conflicts may take on a partial shift. Beta Alpha Psi members will receive both, professional (training) hours and service hours, by participating in this event. ALL students are encouraged to participate!!!

If you would like to sign up and get involved, please email Ella Ivashkina at ellaivashkina.bap@gmail.com.

The volunteer training sessions have been scheduled on the following dates:
-April 27 (Wednsday) 6:00PM-7:00PM at UW1-021
-May 3 (Tuesday) 6:00PM-7:00PM Location TBD

Please plan on attending one of the sessions as we will be discussing what your responsibilities will be for the event. Ella will inform you of the location (i.e. room number) for the May training date.

BAP Northwest Regional Conference

Our chapter attended the Beta Alpha Psi Northwest Regional Conference this past weekend in Portland, Oregon and competed in two out of the three Best Practice competitions.

Jennifer To, Steve Oh, and Ryan Shephard placed 3rd in the competition: ‘Enhancing Our Role in Environmental Sustainability and Social Responsibility.’

James Sommer (with the help of Malick Toguyeni on the research) placed 1st in the competition: ‘Innovate The Accountant’s Role in a Changing Business Environment’ and will be moving onto the National conference in Denver, Colorado to represent our chapter for this competition.

A lot of effort was put into preparing for these competitions. Please congratulate them the next time you see them on campus!

Professional Meeting

The next Beta Alpha Psi professional meeting will be on Wednesday, March 2 at 6pm in UW1-061. Our speaker will be Jim Carroll, a Field Audit Manager for the Department of Revenue. Dress code is business casual. Hope to see everyone there!
