We will be discussing the VITA Program and helping students register to volunteer during the meeting!
This is a major opportunity for members and candidates to complete their annual hours for BAP. As some of you already know, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is a great way to not only reach your hours requirement, but it also provides valuable experience with filing tax returns on the basic level.
This program is available for people who are UNABLE to make weekly BAP meetings! Submit an application for BAP, pay your dues, and joining VITA is the only way to complete you hours to be inducted if you are unable to make meetings and service events!
**IN ORDER TO HAVE YOUR HOURS COUNT YOU MUST CONTACT DAVID YOUNG AT VITAUWB@GMAIL.COM***(please include you name, Student ID, the location you registered for, and your weekly time slot)
Not only does this benefit your current and future learning, but it also boosts your resume significantly during recruiting. The firm's all love it and there's definite reason why.
Here's what you need to know:
#1: VITA operates in both King and Snohomish County, with various locations to choose from. It runs from mid-January through mid-April. It is centered around providing free assistance to low income taxpayers in hopes to get them the biggest return possible.
#2: Upon registering for the program you must select two training dates. These are commonly a Saturday and a Sunday in December and January. Snohomish County training is held in Everett while King County Training is held in Seattle.
Training is 8 hours each day and counts towards your Professional Hours for BAP (16 total hours!). You cannot participate in VITA without going through training.
#3: When you register you will be picking a location and a time slot that works best for you. Time slots are typically 3 hours, one day per week at your specific location. All of these hours count as Service Hours (3 hours/week x 13 weeks = PLENTY of service hours).
Please keep in mind that this is a firm commitment. Site mangers need their volunteers every week in order to provide as much help as possible. However, if you are unable to make it be sure to let them know!
We strongly recommend you all consider this incredible opportunity! If you have any questions about signing up please let David know via email at firstname.lastname@example.org!
Hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving, and we hope to see you on December 1st!
There is a blood drive coming up at Juanita HS on December 2nd. The shift are for two hours long but you can do as many you would like. You will need a brief training which I can do one-on-one or as a group. It will take about 10 minutes.
As a donor monitor, our primary job is to ensure all donees are doing well after donating and providing food and snacks. You can mingle and even talk about BAP.
Please send me your name and time you would like to help out or if you have any questions.
