Information about Costco Annual Shareholders’ Meeting

Costco Wholesale

Hey Bappers!  Next week we have an exciting opportunity to attend the Costco Annual Shareholders’ Meeting!  Here are some more details about the event:

The Costco Annual Shareholders’ Meeting will be held on January 29th at 4pm at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.  The address of the Meydenbauer Center is 11100 NE 6th Street; Bellevue, WA  98004.  The meeting starts at 4pm.

The shareholders’ meeting is open to the public, and for the past several years many accounting students from UWB have attended the meeting.  The meeting counts for professional service hours for members of Beta Alpha Psi.

Attending a company’s annual shareholder meeting is a very informative and educational event.  You’ll hear directly from company management about their strategy and financial results.  They’ll start the meeting with an entertaining video that recaps the significant events of 2014.  The meeting concludes with questions from the audience, which are always entertaining. (e.g. :  “Are you sure we aren’t losing money on the $1.50 hot dog?).

In addition to being educational and informative, the Costco meeting is also FUN.  They have a lot of food, free give aways, and product demos that will keep you busy both before and after the meeting.

Logistics are a bit challenging because several thousand people attend this meeting.  Parking is free in the Meydenbauer center for meeting attendees, but the garage always fills up so I would say you would need to get there not long after 3pm to be assured of a free parking spot.  The Meydenbauer Center is also walking distance from the Bellevue Transit Station, if taking the bus is an option for you.  At a minimum, please try to carpool with other students.

We’ll try to do a group picture of all UWB students at 3:30pm, so please plan to arrive before 3:30pm for the photo op.

If you have a chance, please go to www.costco.com and download the 2015 proxy statement to see a review and discussion of the various topics that will be put to a vote of the shareholders.

There is no formal dress code, but I recommend to at least come business casual.

I think this is the 5th annual trip.  We’ll have a blast.  Please contact Ron Tilden at rtilden@uwb.edu if you have any specific questions.
